"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything." Plato
When putting together the yoga playlists I use in yoga classes I pull from all different genres and like an eclectic mix of classics, soul, blues, rock, contemporary, covers, indie, instrumental, and yoga chants/music. I follow my own template where the playlist starts off with music that is meditative and introspective, builds in tempo and energy for the active part of the practice, and then gradually transitions back to more mellow music to progress toward the end of class and into other realms for savasana. Often one particular song, idea, sound will be the catalyst of the playlist and then it's direction and flow naturally evolve from there. I name the playlist base on it's central idea, theme, feel.
